Supervisor - WTP Maintenance Technician
Description

This is a technical and skilled position and has direct supervision of all maintenance technicians and rounds personnel. This position involves the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of equipment and mechanical devices throughout the water system. Operation includes oversight and control of mechanical equipment as well as routine maintenance, servicing, and care of a variety of equipment both in the WTP, well systems, elevated storage tanks, and pump stations. Performs various maintenance duties of the Water Treatment Plant, Rough Branch, Snowbird and Whittier Water Systems to produce potable water in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, regulations, policies and permits.

Responsibilities
  • Checks status of various equipment in the plant, identifies mechanical problems, adjusts and repairs as needed, reports equipment status and condition to plant manager.
  • Accurately enters data in logs and records, both manually and by computer keyboard.
  • Supervises, performs, or assists in the installation, maintenance, repair and overhaul of chemical feeders, compressors, pumps, valves, pneumatic and electrical controllers.
  • Responds to plant alarms and takes corrective action.
  • Calibrates and adjusts equipment and mechanical devices.
  • Restarts equipment after an electrical outage.
  • Reads and interprets charts and other recorders.
  • Supervises and/or performs general cleanup activities.
  • Repairs and maintains structures.
  • Monitors control panel and other equipment and systems for filer feed rates, water flows, pump performance, distribution pressure, filter flow rates, water storage tank levels and other data and determines need for further action.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance and repair functions on the equipment of the Water Treatment Plant, the related lab and the raw water intake facilities which include pump repair/ replacement, changing chlorine line filters, repair meters, circuit boards, grease, lubricate pumps and motors.
  • Makes visual inspection rounds of plant to ensure proper operation of all systems on a regularly scheduled sequence.
  • Performs stand-by duties as required by supervisor such as person on call to respond to emergencies.
  • Communicates with other WTP employees via two-way radio.
  • Participates in safety and other training programs.
  • Answers phone after hours and holidays.
  • Runs errands for the department as needed such as picking up parts/equipment.
  • Performs general maintenance to WTP buildings as required.
  • Participates in the training and orientation of maintenance and rounds personnel.
  • Provides technical assistance throughout the Water Treatment Plant and related well and tank facilities to facilitate the flow of work, responds to questions, solves problems, and ensures
  • proper operations.
  • Keeps manager informed of all water systems operation and unusual circumstances.
  • Performs administrative and procurement duties.
  • Performs job duties according to guidelines and Tribal policies.
  • Fill in for Manager as needed
  • Give work assignments to maintenance tech and rounds tech operators
Scope of Supervision

This position is responsible for supervising others which includes the maintenance technician and rounds tech operators. This position is supervised by program Manager .

Minimum Mandatory Qualifications

Experience: Two (2) years of related experience required. Experience in maintenance of surface water and Well Water Treatment Plants.

Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.

Licenses & Certifications: Valid, insurable NC Driver’s License required. North Carolina Grade A WTP or Well Operator's License required.
