Reports to manager and supervisors over department. Performs various job functions within, and provides leadership for, the Tribal Construction crews involved in the construction, repair of the potable water and wastewater collections system. Provides field leadership to coworkers to ensure the accurate and efficient completion of construction/repair duties. Complies with all applicable local, state and federal regulations, ordinances, policies and permits.
- Meets with supervisor and coworkers to review/discuss projects, work orders, receive instructions and job assignments.
- Receives job assignments from supervisor and reviews work orders, researching maps and related documents, engineering prints, schematic maps and/or project files.
- Obtains supplies, materials and equipment necessary for the job from the warehouse based on geographical location and severity/ scope of job (i.e. pipe fitting, electrical supplies, pump house and other supplies, construction equipment such as trenching machine, backhoe pump pull, etc.)
- Checks personal safety/protective devices to ensure safe operation and proper working order.
- Gives job assignments and instructions to work crew and helps by solving problems, answering questions, reviewing quality, and providing training as needed.
- Performs a variety of operational of duties such as repair and installation of wells.
- Oversees and performs final operation of well at the house and/or location of water.
- Performs pre use check of equipment, which includes checking oil, belts, chains, and visual inspection of equipment to ensure that it is safe to operate.
- Dresses out with appropriate safety gear such as safety vest, hard hat gloves, safety glasses and hearing protection prior to the start of the project.
- Performs a variety of construction installation and repairs on wells water distribution systems such as: excavating ditches, pump sitting, electrical wiring in compliance with Tribal and State building codes.
- Reviews completed projects and the work of crew employees to ensure proper procedures are followed & maintains records for old and new wells.
- Oversees/performs a variety of service related inquires, investigates customer complaints and problems, and take appropriate action to resolve them within departmental guidelines.
- Completes necessary work order documentation (i.e., project performed, materials used time, and list of any specific job); and completes all assigned job duties according to specified job sheet.
- Participates in training and safety programs.
- Subject to Emergency Call Out, 24/7, year-round as needed.
- Performs job duties according to established safety guidelines and Tribal policies.
Supervises 1-3 positions. This position works under the supervision of the Manager, and supervisors of Tribal Construction. Daily program management and operations should be handled independently within the parameters outlined by the Manger - Construction, seeking assistance as needed. The individual in this position must demonstrate initiative and be a self-starter.
Experience: Two (2) years of related experience required. Experience to include well pump installation and water distribution and electrical.
Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be in lieu of degree, with required related experience of an additional 1 year.
Licenses & Certifications: Valid, insurable NC Driver’s License required. Must be working towards obtaining residential electrical license within a year of date of hire and obtain residential electrical license within 3 years.
