Description

Conducts initial reports on State and tribal alcohol violations and crimes, enforce the criminal laws, perform initial regulatory and compliance checks on retails with alcohol beverage sales and tobacco sales and perform any other law enforcement duty. Provides assistance to ensure the maintenance of law and order, safety of the public and adherence to laws and ordinances for which the EBCI ALE Division is responsible to enforce. Educates the public on various matters relating to laws, ordinances, personal safety, and overall community wellbeing.

Responsibilities
  • This position performs all responsibilities incumbent upon a sworn law enforcement officer.
  • Performs the full range of law enforcement duties as a North Carolina certified Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commissioned law enforcement officer, including the detection, investigation and arrest of criminal violators, application of and execution of search warrants and subpoenas.
  • To provide for the impartial enforcement and regulation of the ABC Laws and ABC Commission Rules, enforcement of the underage tobacco sales laws, enforce of the Tribal and State controlled substances act.
  • Receives assignments, instructions, and related information from the assigned ALE Agent supervisor.
  • Responds to emergency calls and disturbances at permitted locations. Must protect and process the scene in the event of an accident, call for further assistance, and/or administer first aid until EMS arrives.
  • Apprehends, arrests, and processes suspects and/ or criminals using accepted policies and procedures to ensure rights of criminal and protection of the officer.
  • Patrol permittees and assigned high crime areas.
  • Performs preliminary investigations of ABC crimes and violations.
  • Prepares detailed investigative reports and case files on all types of crime and incidents.
  • Makes court appearances as required to present evidence and provide testimony in Federal, State, .and Tribal Courts; this may include up to five county courts or more, for state charges.
  • Serves warrants and other legal documents (i.e. orders for arrest, contempt orders, subpoenas, etc.), as required on a Tribal, State, and Federal level.
  • Compiles information and prepares reports of activities and maintains specified records, files, and logs in support of Alcohol Law Enforcement activities.
  • Maintains proficiency in the use of assigned weapons, baton, cuffs, and patrol car in pursuit situations. Assigned weapons may include .223 caliber rifle, 12 GA shotguns, 9mm semi­ automatic pistols, etc.
  • Maintains assigned vehicle in clean and orderly condition; secures maintenance as required.
  • Participates in in-service, ongoing, and specialized training, as required and made available.
  • Attains specified certifications and licensing, DSO (State and Federal), driver's license, as required.
  • Performs all duties according to established safety guidelines and Tribal policy, along with Tribal ALE policies and procedures.
  • Will be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and rotating on-call schedule to include being on-call 24/7.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Scope of Supervision

This position is not responsible for supervising others. Works under the general direction of the Lead ALE Agent and/or Chief Tribal ALE Agent

Minimum Mandatory Qualifications

Experience: One (1) year of related experience required.

Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.

Licenses & Certifications: Valid, insurable NC Driver’s License required. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a NC Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification and CPR/First Aid Certification. Must pass the firearms qualification with a score of 90 or above. Must pass a physical examination and psychological evaluation within 30 days of hire. Must be in good standing and remain certifiable with the North Carolina Law Enforcement Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
