Program Coordinator
Description

Performs planning and coordination functions for the Fisheries and Wildlife Management program with a focus on hunting and fishing activities. Ensures implementation of up-to-date programmatic policies and procedures in the support of daily operations and special events. Oversees implementation of Fisheries and Wildlife Management permitting system and serves as primary person responsible for customer and vendor services, revenue tracking, reporting, and other fiscal duties of the Tribal Trout Fishing Enterprise. Conducts education and outreach efforts to improve participation in hunting and fishing and meet conservation goals.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as the fishing and hunting permitting and sales coordinator
  • Works with permit vendors and contractors to maintain and improve system operations and address issues with hardware and software as they arise
  • Develops information technology solutions to improve the administration of hunting and fishing regulations and management systems
  • Coordinates and supervises fishing tournament operations and is responsible for the disbursement, reconciliation, and accounting of tagged fish payouts
  • Coordinates program marketing including press releases, newsletters, and social media to promote hunting, fishing, and conservation participation
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts hunting and fishing related events, educational programs, and projects to assist with mission delivery
  • Develops strategic educational tools for new and current anglers and hunters
  • Works with local schools and conservation organizations to enhance youth participation in hunting, fishing, and conservation
  • Receives and solicits information, regarding program operations and public concerns related to fish, wildlife, and other environmental issues and coordinates responses from staff as needed
  • Works with program staff and Division of Commerce to develop and utilize communication and marketing strategies to increase angler and hunter participation
  • Attends fairs, outdoor expos, and other tabling events to promote EBCI fishing and hunting programming
  • Conducts studies and evaluates the efficacy of program efforts to support hunting, fishing, and conservation
  • Assists in developing, maintaining, and updating programmatic policies and procedures
  • Assists program personnel in processing administrative, purchasing, and travel documents as needed
  • Intakes regulatory requests and aids and scheduling needs between other tribal programs, contractors and federal agencies
  • Prepares and disseminates data, summaries, forms, and reports to program staff and EBCI leadership relating to program operations
  • Maintains events calendar entering appointment data regarding fixed meetings, program events, and conferences for Fisheries and Wildlife staff
  • Performs other program functions as assigned by Fisheries and Wildlife Manager that include but is not limited to compiling and entering data into computers, developing of communication materials using multiple media, and attending various meetings as a representative of the Fisheries and Wildlife Management program and assisting other program staff/offices with special events and/or outdoor activities
Scope of Supervision

This position is supervised by program leadership. This position may supervise contractors, interns, and seasonal employees.

Minimum Mandatory Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of related experience required. Experience in a blend of several areas- including but not limited to natural resources, outdoor recreation, recreation administration, conservation education, communications, finance, business administration or senior administrative position.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a business, public relations, outdoor recreation, natural resources management or related field required. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable, with required related experience as an additional: 5 years with a High School Diploma/GED equivalent; or 3 years with an Associate’s Degree.

Licenses & Certifications: Valid, insurable NC Driver’s License required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, coordination and organizational skills- must be comfortable with public speaking and have excellent people skills
  • Knowledge of marketing, journalism, social media technology best practices and education program development and delivery
  • Experience in customer service practices and working with the public
  • Ability to organize, develop, and implement educational and outreach activities
  • Must have knowledge of the policies, procedures, and operational guidelines of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Natural Resources Department
  • Requires detailed organizational skills and proficient and precise calculations for reconciliation purposes while maintaining all records
  • Employee must be familiar with financial and data management operating systems, proficiency is preferred
  • Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Must have proficiency with all necessary office equipment as needed
  • Requires the ability to write routine correspondence, maintain specified records, files & logs, and compile data to generate standard and custom financial documents/reports
  • Requires the ability to organize work, deal effectively with the public, communicate both verbally and in writing, follow instructions, and work as a member of a group or independently
