Project Crew Leader
Description

Responsible for work and oversight of project or maintenance crew. Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment in construction, and maintenance of roads upon the Qualla Boundary. Responsible for making decisions to ensure projects are completed and crew members are safe during all projects. Performs project note keeping and budgetary log ensuring projects and maintenance are on budget and schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for work orders through the work order process and checks equipment to ensure safe operation and proper maintenance is carried out.
  • Assures that all personal protective equipment needed is present and in proper working order.
  • Approves all personal protective equipment as necessary (i.e. safety vest, glasses, gloves, chaps, steel toe boots, hard hat, etc.).
  • Ensures job site follows all safety and traffic regulations (i.e. set up traffic warning signs, barricades, flag person, and re-routes traffic, etc.) as needed.
  • Ability to read engineering plans, and as-builts.
  • Ability to operate and train a variety of light and heavy equipment with wheeled and crawler type traction to build and maintain roads within the reservation.
  • Typical duties that are performed as licensed are listed below.
  • Coordinates the work of laborers and equipment operators assigned to assist on projects.
  • Assists with policy and procedure changes.
  • Responsible for proper PPE and equipment at all work sites.
  • Ensures preventative maintenance on equipment (i.e. checks fluid levels, hoses, tires, belts, etc.).
  • Ensures safe transportation of all personnel and equipment to and from work areas.
  • Completes job assignment and equipment maintenance documentation as required.
  • Participates in training and safety programs.
  • Performs all duties according to established safety guidelines, relevant NCDOT standards, and Tribal policy.
  • Assist the Supervisor - Construction with the on-call requirements of everyone on CDOT staff.
  • May be required to clear roads of snow or hazardous weather conditions.
  • Operates chipper truck, chainsaw, and assists with brush removal as assigned.
  • Operates bucket truck for limbing and tree removal.
Scope of Supervision

This position is supervised by program leadership. This position is responsible for supervising assigned personnel.

Minimum Mandatory Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of related experience required. Experience in road construction and/or road maintenance and supervising others.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related field required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be in lieu of degree, with required related experience of an additional: 5 years with a High School Diploma/GED equivalent; or 3 years with an Associate’s Degree.

Licenses & Certifications: Valid, insurable NC-CDL A or B required.
