Performs administrative functions for the Forestry program with a focus on coordination and community engagement for forest management activities on Tribal trust land and federal public land. Oversees contract administration, coordinating efforts among staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatios to meet forest management and federal partnership goals and objectives. Ensures implementation of up-to-date programmatic policies and procedures in the support of daily operations and events. Conducts education and outreach efforts to improve participation in forestry initiatives.
- Works closely in partnership with community members, volunteers, natural resources contractors, consultants, federal, state and local government agencies, and other stakeholders to coordinate fulfillment of forest management objectives, emphasizing government to government relationships.
- Oversees administration of contracts and agreements with federal agencies including but not limited to Tribal Forest Protection Act, Good Neighbor Authority Act, National Park Service Gathering Agreement, and associated special projects
- Provide compliance oversight for operations and ensures that all program activities align with existing laws and regulations
- Ensures effective organizational management by assisting with task prioritization, internal communication among staff, external communication with partners, and evaluating workflow efficiencies
- Provides administrative and logistical support to Forestry program goals and objectives including fire prevention, preparedness, detection, resource rehabilitation, mobilization, prescribed fire, aviation operations, and training programs.
- Supports preparedness of forestry and wild land fire suppression equipment and personnel.
- Plans and coordinates training for forestry and fire staff
- Leads in developing, maintaining, and updating standard operating procedures
- Creates detailed manuals to guide program operations and ensure alignment with existing regulations and agreement terms
- Develops information technology solutions to improve the administration of forest management projects and data management systems
- Processes and maintains records of administrative, contracting, purchasing, and travel functions as needed
- Assists Manager – Forestry in development of budget and financial strategies, financial reports, and auditing functions to ensure sustainability and accountability of program operations
- Identifies and applies for funding and grants to support forestry goals and objectives
- Prepares and disseminates data, summaries, forms, and reports to staff and EBCI leadership relating to program operations
- Participates in Forestry strategic planning efforts, internal and external committees, and problem-solving oriented teams as assigned.
- Maintains events calendar entering appointment data regarding fixed meetings, program events, and conferences for Forestry staff
- Plans, organizes, and conducts forestry related events, educational programs, and communication tools to engage stakeholders and solicit community input
- Works with local schools and partners organizations to enhance youth participation and workforce development in forestry careers
- Performs other program functions as assigned by Manager - Forestry that include but are not limited to compiling and entering data into computers, developing of communication materials using multiple media, and attending various meetings as a representative of the Forestry program and assisting other program staff/offices with special events and/or outdoor activities
This position is supervised by program leadership. This position may supervise contractors, interns, and seasonal employees.
Experience: Two (2) years of related professional experience required related to this position. Experience in a blend of several areas- including but not limited to natural resource project management, forestry, outdoor recreation/education, or environmental science.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a forestry, natural resources, environmental sciences, outdoor recreation/education, or related field required. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable, with required related experience as an additional: 3 years with an Associate’s Degree. A Master’s Degree may be substituted for 1 year of experience.
Licenses & Certifications: Valid, insurable NC Driver’s License required.
