Description

Performs various physical tasks on projects involving the roads and bridges in or near the reservation boundary.

Responsibilities
  • Meets with supervisor and coworkers to review/discuss projects and receive instruction and job assignments.
  • Obtains supplies, materials and equipment necessary for the job from appropriate storage.
  • Checks equipment to ensure safe operation. Assures that all personal protective equipment needed is present and in proper order.
  • Wears protective gear necessary for job function (i.e., safety glasses, steel toe boots, safety vest, gloves, chaps, hard hat, ear protection, etc.).
  • Performs a variety of construction, maintenance, repair, and cleaning duties in all areas of the division. Typical duties include; clear-cutting right-of-way, cleaning ditches and culverts, and repair, and maintenance of fences, retaining walls, water lines, and bridges. Assists in survey processes and rock drilling as directed. Assists in the application of materials used in patching of roadways.
  • Uses a wide range of hand tools and small mechanical equipment such as tamper, sandblaster, rock drill, pumps, compressors, chain saws, and other specialty saws.
  • Transports crew vehicles, materials, and personnel to and from job sites as needed.
  • Performs traffic control and public relations in construction work zones.
  • Completes job logs and documentation as required and participates in training and safety programs.
  • Assists with survey crew duties as required and performs standby duties as required.
  • Performs all duties according to established guidelines and Tribal policy.
  • Adheres to CDOT Call-In Policy during inclement weather.
  • Handles other duties as assigned by chain of command.
Scope of Supervision

This position is supervised by program leadership. This position is not responsible for supervising others.

Minimum Mandatory Qualifications

Experience: One (1) year of related experience required.

Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be in lieu of degree, with required related experience of an additional 1 year.

Licenses & Certifications: Valid, insurable NC Driver’s License required.
