“Unto These Hills” Outdoor Drama
Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of “Unto These Hills.”
Don’t miss the renowned drama, Unto These Hills. Millions of people have loved the heart-wrenching action and soaring triumph of Unto These Hills since its debut on July 1, 1950. The outdoor drama tells the triumphant story of the formation of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians from first contact with Europeans through the years following the infamous Trail of Tears.
Despite this dark and tragic episode in the lives of the Cherokee, the story is beautifully sculpted with imagery and effective emotional symmetry, symbolizing the re-emergence of a people whose spiritual fortitude, social complexities, and human courage will never be broken.

Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc.
Welcome to Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc.
It all begins with a basket. As you turn it over in your hands, a kind voice mentions it was made from hundreds of strands of river cane. Each strand was cut, scraped, and worked with while damp––a Cherokee technique thousands of years old. The Cherokee salesperson smiles. You note the tag with the artist’s name, which leads to the artist’s story. And that leads to the Bird Clan mask carved in buckeye. And the etched pottery made from local clay.
Part shopping experience, part gallery dedicated to the preservation of Cherokee’s craftsmanship and skill, Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc. promotes the work of over 350 Cherokee artisan members. Since 1946, Cherokee’s artistry has been evident on every shelf and in every display.
